Phi Kappa Phi Awards Programs Now Accepting Applications

By Victoria Robertson on January 22, 2018

As a student, it’s essential to push yourself to reach for the stars and strive for your dreams. That being said, sometimes the financials aren’t always there to support you as much as you would like, especially when it comes to the additional, financial burden of continued education.

For this reason, it’s imperative that you seek other avenues of assistance when it comes to funding your dreams. In fact, there are countless scholarship programs out there that can be of assistance to your specific needs.

One of said available options to you is the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. The Phi Kappa Phi honor society was founded in 1897, making it the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

The honor society is extremely selective, inducting only about 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni annually. Chapters of the honor society can be found on 300 college and university campuses in North America as well as the Philippines.

That being said, membership to this prestigious honor society is by invitation only. In fact, only the top ten percent of seniors and graduate students (as well as the top 7.5 percent of juniors) are invited to become members. Membership is also extended to faculty, staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Phi Kappa Phi’s mission is “To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.” In this aim, the honor society is beneficial to all members, both financially and as a professional distinction when it comes time to search for employment on the job market.

So how exactly is this honor society beneficial to you?

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has just begun accepting applications for its 2018 award programs, according to a recent press release. These programs include financial and professional assistance in the form of Fellowships, Study Abroad Grants, Literacy Grants and Love of Learning Awards.

In other words, these programs provide financial assistance for nearly all fields of graduate study, continuing education, professional development, literacy initiatives and studies abroad. So essentially, any financial assistance you may need in terms of your future goals begins with this honor society.

The award programs recognize outstanding academic achievement, recognizing students and members on chapter campuses since 1933. And this is no small, financial feat. In fact, over $1.4 million has been awarded each biennium. Just this past year, these programs recognized over 350 individuals.

If that’s not enough to sell you on the benefits of such an honor society, just imagine your dreams coming true due to a membership that recognizes your hard work and dedication.

There are quite a few programs currently accepting applications, including Study Abroad Grants, Literacy Grants, Love of Learning Awards and Fellowships.

As far as the Study Abroad Grants go, if you plan to study abroad in the near future to enhance your resume, this is an amazing grant to consider. There are 50 grants to be awarded, each consisting of $1,000 that will be awarded to members and non-members studying abroad (so you don’t have to be a member of the honor society to apply). The deadline for this grant is February 15th, so it’s quickly approaching!

The Literacy Grants are valued up to $2,500 and are only available to Phi Kappa Phi chapters as well as individual members. These grants are given to members seeking funding for literacy initiatives and the deadline for applications is April 1st.

There are also 100 Love of Learning Awards, each valued at $500, that are utilized to assist post-baccalaureate studies and professional development for active members of Phi Kappa Phi. Again, these awards are only open to members, and the deadline for applications is also April 1st.

Finally, there are six Fellowships, each $15,000, as well as 51 Fellowships, each $5,000, available to members that are entering their first year of graduate or professional study. Again, these Fellowships are only available to members, and the deadlines vary by Phi Kappa Phi chapter. For more information on those deadlines, contact your local chapter.
